The Power of Limited Beliefs

There are countless resources on the internet that can instruct you on transforming your limiting beliefs. This blog won't be one of them. What some of those videos miss is their inability to shift your beliefs about your beliefs at that moment. If I provided a 10-step guide on how to change your beliefs, but you think there's nothing wrong with them, would you follow it? Probably not. And that leads us to the first lesson in this blog.
What Shapes You

Every action or inaction you take is rooted in your belief system. Your beliefs, whether significant or minor, shape everything you do. For instance, if you're driving to work during rush hour, you might change lanes to one that seems to be moving faster because you BELIEVE it will get you there quicker. Whether this proves true or not is beside the point; what matters is that your belief prompted you to act or not act. You might choose to spend your entire life in your hometown because you believe moving away might be unsafe, your parents need you around, or it's simply the best place for you to live. These beliefs aren't inherently true or false; they are just beliefs you hold. These beliefs influence how you live your life and the choices you make whether you realize it consciously or not. My goal is for you to be more mindful of this and realize eveything derived from a belief you had. Take a moment to reflect on the last 10 decisions you have made. Aim for 5 small decisions and 5 big ones. What beliefs led you to make that decision?
"Negative" Beliefs
Now that we understand the power our beliefs hold over our lives, what happens when our belief system is leaning on the negative side? I'll give you another reflection question. What are some goals and desires you yet to pursue in your life? Why haven't you pursued them? This is the impact of limited beliefs. Let's say your desire is to use your talents and open your own business. If you believe no one will buy your products, you are too old to start a business, you won't earn enough to quit your current job, entreprenurship is not a secure route, or that you know nothing about business, despite WANTING this for yourself, you won't pursue it. It'll remain a dream. What if you desire to feel more attractive and the solution to that for you is to decrease a little body fat, tone up your muscles, upgrade your wardrobe, and overall boost your self confidence and self image? If you believe that all exercise is painful, too hard, and ineffective, you will not do it. If you believe you have to give up all the foods and drinks you love & "healthy" foods are boring, you won't change your diet. The dream version of yourself... will remain a dream. If you don't believe you can make enough money, you'll never spend, invest, or donate it. Lastly, if you want healthy relationships romantically, platonically, and/or professionally, but deep down you don't believe you are likable, lovable, or that the right people for you do not exist, all the people in the world that are waiting for you will never find you. These limited beliefs truly do restrict your life and what it has the potential to be.
Understand what your limited beliefs are so you can be mindful of them and slowly begin to change them as they arise.
"Positive" Beliefs
One of the most freeing aspects of beliefs is that we can all hold different views about the same topics. Some of you might believe in God, while others do not. Does it matter? Not really. What truly matters is the actions that stem from that BELIEF. For instance, many people have a fear-based approach to God, and the only reason they refrain from committing crimes and doing terrible things is BECAUSE they fear God. If that belief prevents them from harming others, then perhaps it's a beneficial belief for them. Conversely, many have committed horrific crimes against humanity in the NAME of God. In such cases, the same belief seems to be a harmful one. The concept of liberating beliefs involves recognizing the beliefs you need to adopt when you decide to pursue something for yourself. Suppose your goal is to attend school and earn a degree. What beliefs are necessary for this? You must believe you are smart enough, can afford it, have the time, and that it's not too late. You should also believe you will encounter supportive people, secure a high-paying job afterward, and lead an amazing life. These beliefs will not only help you enroll in school but also complete it. It's essential to genuinely believe these things, not just repeat them daily. Take another moment to consider what you want in life and identify the beliefs you need to move the needle.

Hopefully, I have altered your belief system about beliefs. I hope now you see how important your belief system is and begin to put in the work to develop a strong & empowering one. Take this blog for example, I would not be writing it if I didn't believe I could nor if I did not believe this was a topic that could benefit someone (including myself). When your beliefs begin to radiate strongly (positively or negatively) you attract that same radiation. What energy do you want to attract? BE that.
